Gujarat student stabbed to death outside her college by jilted lover; friend injured in attack, accused arrested

RAJKOT: College students watched in horror as a 19-year-old girl, studying in the first-year of Bachelors of Computer Application (BCA), was stabbed to death by a jilted lover outside the institute in Bhuj town of Kutch on Thursday.The student, Sakshi Khaniya, succumbed to the injuries at hospital around 2am on Friday.The police arrested the attacker, 23-year-old Mohit Siddhpura while his friend Jayesh Thakor, who aided in the fatal assault, is under treatment due to injuries sustained in the incident.Senior police officials confirmed that Sakshi and Mohit, both neighbours in Gandhidham town, were briefly in a relationship but they broke up a few months ago.

Hours before the incident, Sakshi blocked his number on her mother's advice, which left him seething.According to the complaint lodged by the deceased' father Jethalal (46), Sakshi was returning to her hostel located close to Sanskar College. Mohit, who was riding pillion on Jayesh's bike, first tried to stab her on the moving vehicle but failed. He then alighted and asked her to quit studies and return to Gandhidham.

When she refused, he started knifing her, inflicting serious wounds.Investigation officer Alpesh Patel said Sakshi and Mohit had been in a relationship earlier, and police are probing the reasons behind their breakup. Efforts are on to recover the knife and motorcycle used in the crime.Talking to reporters, R D Jadeja, deputy superintendent of police (DySP), RD Jadeja, said, "Sakshi had moved to Bhuj a month ago for studies.

On Thursday, she informed her mother that Mohit was pressuring her to return, and she advised him to block his calls. Soon after, Mohit reached Bhuj with his friend and carried out the attack."Investigation officer, Bhuj City A Division police station, Alpesh Patel, added, "Mohit is involved in the air conditioning repair business. He and Sakshi were previously in a relationship, which ended for unknown reasons. We are trying to probe the exact reasons.
