An Intermediate First Year student at the Telangana Social Welfare Residential School and Junior College for boys at Shaikpet was declared dead, minutes after he reportedly attempted to end his life in the hostel’s washroom, on Saturday.

The scene was first noticed by the hostel sweepers who were cleaning the dormitory halls at around 10.30 a.m. The staff and students, who were alerted, tried rescuing the boy and rushed him to the nearby Shaikpet Government Area Hospital.

According to the official release from Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TGSWREIS), the victim, B. Prabhas, a first-year student in MPC stream hailed from Zaheerabad. At around 10.55 a.m., on the way to the hospital, the hostel’s health supervisor and staff also performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the boy, but it was unsuccessful. The duty doctor at the hospital declared the boy dead at around 11.10 a.m.

The release also said that the hostel staff found a selfie video purportedly recorded by Prabhas. “In the video, he expressed that his parents did not understand him,” it noted.
