Guv pulls up varsities over delay in degree clearance

B K MishraPatna: Taking strong exception to the inordinate delay in the distribution of degrees to successful students, governor-cum-chancellor Syed Ata Hasnain on Saturday directed universities to launch a special drive in mission mode to clear all pending applications related to the award of degrees.

He also asked universities to set up a degree monitoring cell to ensure timely issuance of degrees.Hasnain further directed all universities to furnish details on the current status of printing and distribution of degrees of students who passed undergraduate and postgraduate examinations between 2010 and 2014.All state universities have been asked to constitute a degree monitoring cell to maintain constant vigil over the printing and award of degrees.

The cell will function under a nodal officer nominated by the university, whose name and contact details must be shared with the chancellor’s secretariat. In case of staff shortage, universities may avail services from the BELTRON office.“This work must receive top priority at the university level so that students’ careers are not adversely affected due to delay in getting their degrees,” the chancellor said.In a separate message, the chancellor wished all students enrolled in higher education institutions in the state a bright future with the commencement of the new academic session.
