Structured counselling, focus on collaborative efforts with enforcement teams, and proactive rehabilitation of youth as central strategies to tackle drug abuse were among the key areas discussed during a coordination meeting by Hyderabad Narcotic Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) with registered rehabilitation centres across the city on Tuesday (December 9).
The meeting was organised with the aim of combating drug abuse and providing timely rehabilitation support to affected youth.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Vaibhav Gaikwad emphasised that rehabilitation plays a crucial role in building drug-free communities. He urged the centres to conduct structured counselling sessions for drug users referred by H-NEW, particularly students and young citizens, and to work closely with enforcement teams to support individuals apprehended during anti-drug operations.
Representatives of 10 leading centres, including Wisdom Society, New Hope Association, DARE Rehabilitation Centre and Asha De-addiction and Rehabilitation Centre, participated in the meeting and assured full cooperation in providing professional counselling and psychological support.
The meeting also served as a platform to strengthen ties between law enforcement and health professionals, NGOs and rehabilitation networks. Inspectors G.S. Daniel, S. Bala Swamy and Sub-Inspectors C. Venkata Ramulu and B. Manoj Kumar of H-NEW attended the session.
