Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream has issued a voluntary nationwide recall of its popular Häagen-Dazs Chocolate Dark Chocolate Mini Bars due to the presence of a serious allergen that is not listed on the packaging.

This recall pertains to specific batches sold across 31 states through Kroger and Giant Eagle retail outletsThe recall was triggered after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) detected a packaging mistake during manufacturing. The affected product, sold in six-count packs, bears the batch code LLA519501 with a best-by date of January 31, 2027. These bars were distributed primarily in states.The problem arose because some batches may have contained wheat and the allergen not listed on the packaging likely due to incorrect repacking at the start of a production run.

This presents a serious health hazard for individuals with wheat allergies or sensitivities, who could experience life-threatening reactions such as anaphylaxis, swelling, hives, difficulty breathing, and gastrointestinal distress.

Häagen-Dazs recall impacts stores in these states

Kroger stores in 29 states, which includes Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin and WyomingGiant Eagle stores in 5 states: Indiana, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

Consumers are urged to check their freezers and, if they possess the affected product, to discontinue consumption immediately. They can either dispose of the product or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

As of now, no injuries or illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall. Dreyer’s has indicated that the issue likely originated from a packaging error at the production facility, where wheat-containing products were mistakenly dispensed into the wrong packaging.People with wheat allergies or sensitivities are strongly advised not to consume the affected ice cream bars.
