Investigating a house break theft, the Begur police have arrested two habitual offenders who were involved in as many as five house break thefts reported in and around the city recently.

The arrested have been identified as Shanth Kumar, 37, a wall painter by profession and his associate Jnanaprakasham, 40, a carpenter, both hailing from Kolar Gold Fields (KGF).

“The accused are habitual offenders, who used to come to the city on a train and move around residential areas to identify locked houses. The accused do not use mobile phones and cover their faces with masks while operating. However the duo was caught based on the distinguished physical description found in CCTV footage,” a senior official said.

The City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh advised people to be careful while leaving their houses locked and asked them to inform the jurisdictional police while going out of station. This would help the police to keep an eye on the house while on patrol, he said.
