Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised US President Donald Trump’s peace efforts and endorsed his claim of mediating a ceasefire between India and Pakistan when tensions escalated in May following Operation Sindoor, calling him a “man of peace".
While addressing the Sharm el-Sheikh Summit on Gaza in Egypt, Trump interrupted his speech and turned towards Sharif, who was standing behind him. “Do you want to say something?" Trump asked Sharif, before telling him to say “what you said to me the other day".
Taking the podium, the Pakistani Prime Minister said, “I would say this is one of the greatest days in contemporary history, because peace has been achieved after untiring efforts. Efforts led by President Trump, who is genuinely a man of peace who had relentlessly and untiringly worked throughout these months, day in and day out, to make this world a place to live in peace and prosperity."
Shehbaz Sharif reiterated that Pakistan had nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for his contributions in stopping the war between India and Pakistan and mediating a ceasefire, a claim which India has refuted.
“Again, I would like to nominate this great president for the Nobel Peace Prize, because I genuinely feel he is the most genuine and most wonderful candidate for the peace prize because he has brought not only peace in South Asia — saved millions of people, their lives — and today, achieving peace in Gaza [and] saving, millions of lives in the Middle East."

‘India, Pakistan Both Nuclear Powers’
“Mr President, I would like to salute you for your exemplary leadership – visionary leadership, and I think that you are the man this world needed most at this point in time. The world will always remember you as a man who did everything, went out of his way to stop 7 and today 8 wars," said Sharif.
“Suffice to say, had it not been for this gentleman, who knows, India and Pakistan are both nuclear powers, had he not intervened with his wonderful team during those four days, the war could’ve escalated to a level and who would’ve lived to tell what happened. Similarly, here in this part of the world in the Middle East, Mr president, your valuable contribution along with President Sisi, I think history will remember in golden words," he added.
After Sharif’s speech ended, Trump commented, “Wow! I didn’t expect that. Let’s go home, there’s nothing more I have to say. Goodbye everybody. That was really beautiful and beautifully delivered, thank you very much."
Donald Trump, on multiple occasions, has claimed credit for helping defuse tensions between India and Pakistan during India’s ‘Operation Sindoor’ in May this year, when a four-day military escalation had brought the two neighbours to the brink of war.
However, India has maintained that the ceasefire between India and Pakistan was reached through direct talks and negotiations between both countries, and that there was no external force involved.
The comments were made at the Gaza Peace Summit in Egypt, attended by leaders from 20 countries, including UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Italy’s Giorgia Meloni, aimed to finalise a framework to end the ongoing Gaza war and establish a roadmap for long-term regional stability.
