HUNJHUNU: A chilling murder has come to light in Jhunjhunu involving a woman and her lover, younger than her by 14 years, conspiring to kill her husband and stage it as an accident.

Police have arrested both Poonam, 45, and Krishna Kumar Jat, 31, for the murder of Anoop Singh Yadav. Acting SP Devendra Singh Rajawat said Anoop's body was discovered on June 9 along the district's Buhaana's Pacheeri Road. Initially reported as a road accident by Anoop's daughter, Monika, suspicious circumstances led police to investigate it as a murder. Krishna was arrested Monday and confessed during interrogation.

He accepted that he was in a romantic relationship with Poonam for seven years. Anoop, who worked in Behror, recently became suspicious of his wife's affair and stopped travelling for work, which distressed the couple. On June 10, Anoop left home for a walk at 11pm, and Poonam informed Krishna as planned. Krishna met Anoop, offered him alcohol, and once Anoop was intoxicated, attacked him with a hammer. To disguise the murder as an accident, Anoop's body was left by the roadside. Krishna was remanded to judicial custody Wednesday after his confession, and Poonam was also sent to jail following her court appearance on Monday. Police have recovered the hammer from Krishna that was used as the murder weapon.
