Banaganapalle administration on Saturday launched a massive plantation drive with an aim to make the mandal headquarters ‘Haritha (Green) Banaganapalle’.
As part of the drive, saplings were planted on road dividers, in government offices, schools, hospitals and other areas. A rally was also taken out from Minister for Roads and Buildings (R&B) B.C. Janardhan Reddy’s office to the Petrol Bunk circle, in which Mr. Reddy’s wife Indira, District Collector Rajakumari Gania and others participated.
Speaking at a meeting organised at the Petrol Bunk Circle, Mr. Janardhan Reddy said that Banaganapalle enjoyed a large green cover but the town has now turned into a concrete jungle with huge structures and cement roads. “We want to make this place a ‘Haritha Banaganapalle’ again,” he said and urged people to cooperate.
The Minister said that his wife has purchased ₹30 lakh worth trees of various varieties from Kadiyam nursery in East Godavari and the same will be planted across the town. “Students and youth should participate in planting the saplings and the people of the town should take the responsibility to protect the saplings,” he added.
Ms. Rajakumari Gania said that these kinds of programmes become a success only with the participation of people. “Change should start from our home and village which would make any initiative for a good cause a success,” she said.
The Minister’s wife said that any visitor to Banaganapalle should feel like visiting an Ashram with green cover and clean environment and every individual of the town should work towards it.
