Hariyali Teej 2025: Significance
Hinduism places a lot of religious significance on Hariyali Teej. The festival is mainly celebrated in North India. All Hindu married women celebrate Hariyali Teej with great fervor and magnificence.
This festival is celebrated with great fervor and joy on the third day or tritiya tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Sawan. This day symbolizes the monsoon season, when everything is beautiful and green. Devotees worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati on this sacred day. Devotees are believed to receive happiness, prosperity, and good fortune from Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. On this holy day, Hindu married women fast strictly for their husbands' longevity and well being, refrain from eating or drinking anything from dawn to dusk, and pray to Lord Mahadev and Maa Parvati to obtain their blessings.
During Hariyali Teej, all married Hindu women dress traditionally, apply mehendi on their hands and feet, adorn themselves with gold jewelry, and wear solah shringar, which is a combination of the most auspicious marriage symbols, such as green bangles, bindi, vermillion, mehendi, toe rings, and anklets. A lot of recently married women go to their parents' place to enjoy this festival with their loved ones. Their parents give them a lot of clothes and gifts.Married and single women alike observe the fast with great fervor and worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati by conducting Rudrabhishekam, offering sweets, and performing Gathbandhan. On this auspicious day, unmarried ladies are believed to receive the blessings of the Lord and Goddess as well as their ideal life partner by completing puja rituals.
Hariyali Teej 2025: Puja Rituals
1. Before beginning puja rites, women rise early and take a sacred bath.2. The house, particularly the puja area should be cleaned.3. They dress elegantly in suits and sarees, preferably in green to symbolize the monsoon, and they accessorize with gold jewels and green bangles, which are symbolic of marriage.3. The color green is considered auspicious.4. They also make sattvik food and bhog prasad.5. Place an idol of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, or an idol of Shiv Parivar, on a wooden plank.6. Offer vermillion to the Goddess and other shringar items to Mata Parvati, light a diya with desi ghee in front of the idol, and adorn them with flowers or a garland.7. Recite Hariyali Teej Katha and offer bhog prasad (kheer and Panchamrit) to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. 8. Chant aarti and seek blessings Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati for a happy married life and pray for their husbands' well-being.9. Unmarried women also seek blessings of Lord Shhiva and Mata Parvati and pray to get the husband of their dreams, such as Mahadev.10. Married women give gifts or clothing to their mother-in-law and father-in-law.11. After performing puja at home, women visit temple, where they perform puja and offer Shringar to Maa Parvati.12. All women come together and they sing bhajans associated with Hariyali Teej.13. After observing fast for whole day, finally they break their fast in the evening at the time of sunset and before that they seek blessings from their husbands by touching their feet.
