In a major political development ahead of Diwali, the Bhupendra Patel-led Gujarat government is set for a significant cabinet reshuffle and expansion. The long-anticipated exercise comes after a high-level meeting in New Delhi attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah, BJP national president JP Nadda, Gujarat BJP chief and Union minister CR Patil, newly appointed state president Jagdish Vishwakarma, and chief minister Bhupendra Patel.
The new ministers will be administered the oath of office by Governor Acharya Devvrat at 11.30am on Friday at Gandhinagar’s Mahatma Mandir.
Among the key highlights of the reshuffle is the promotion of Majura MLA Harsh Sanghavi, currently minister of state for home and sports, who will be elevated to Cabinet rank. Sanghavi’s rise signals the BJP’s emphasis on youth and performance-based recognition within the Gujarat unit.
Another prominent induction is that of first-time MLA Rivaba Jadeja, wife of Indian cricketer Ravindra Jadeja, who will be joining the Cabinet from Jamnagar. Her inclusion reflects the party’s effort to balance regional representation while adding new, high-visibility faces to the government.
Currently, the Bhupendra Patel cabinet has 15 ministers. The reshuffle will see the strength rise to 22 or 23 members, with four to five new ministers being sworn in and around 10 ministers being dropped.
According to sources, several ministers are being shown the door for either underperformance or involvement in controversies. Those likely to be dropped include:
Kanubhai Desai – Finance
Raghavji Patel – Agriculture
Kunvarji Bavaliya – Water Resources
Mulubhai Bera – Tourism
Kuber Dindor – Education
Bhanu Ben Babaria – Women & Child Development
Bachhu Bhai Khabad – Panchayat
Mukesh Patel – Forest & Environment
Bhikhu Singh Parmar – Civil Supplies
Kunvarji Halpati – Livelihood Development
From North Gujarat, Bhikhu Singh Parmar will exit amid controversy over his children’s alleged role in the MNREGA scam. From Central Gujarat, Bachhu Khabad will also be dropped after similar allegations involving his family.
The new council will feature a mix of youth and experienced faces from across the regions:
Jayesh Radadiya, Dr. Darshita Shah, Rivaba Jadeja, Mahesh Kasvala, Hira Solanki, Uday Kangad, and Arjun Modhwadia from Saurashtra
Alpesh Thakor from Gandhinagar
CJ Chavda from North Gujarat
Pankaj Desai and either Keyur Rokadia or Manisha Vakil from Central Gujarat
Sangita Patil and Jitu Chaudhary from South Gujarat, with Ganpat Vasava likely to return
The reshuffle also follows the elevation of Jagdish Vishwakarma as state BJP president. Party sources indicate his ministerial responsibilities may be reassigned to allow him to focus fully on organisational strengthening ahead of the 2027 assembly elections.
This will be the first major cabinet expansion since the formation of the Bhupendra Patel government in 2022. Senior central leaders, including Shah, Nadda, and Patil, are expected to attend the swearing-in ceremony, underscoring the importance the party attaches to the new Gujarat team.
