Harur residents stage road blockade demanding construction of drainages

DHARMAPURI: Residents of Fishermenpet in Ambedkar Nagar in Harur municipality staged a blockade on the Harur-Tiruvannamalai Road demanding construction of drainages in their area.

The road blockade caused traffic disruptions for half an hour.The resident said the lack of sewage facilities had led to waterlogging during rain. This caused unpleasant odours. Also, the situation was aiding the spread of diseases like malaria, they said. Also, they faced face shortage of drinking water.On being informed about the protest, Harur municipal commissioner T Hemalatha arrived at the scene and engaged in discussions with the residents. The residents voiced their complaints to the commissioner. The commissioner conducted an inspection of the area and assured them that steps would be taken to build drainages.She requested the public to raise their requests directly to the municipality and to refrain from blocking roads.
