The family of Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, who allegedly shot himself dead on October 7, has finally consented to a post-mortem examination, after which the cremation is expected to take place at 4 pm today.

Puran Kumar's wife, IAS officer Anmeet P Kumar, had earlier refused the autopsy, demanding the arrest of former Haryana DGP Shatrujeet Kapur and Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarniya, whose names appeared in her late husband's suicide note.

The family's consent comes three days after a 31-member committee formed to seek "justice" gave a 48-hour ultimatum to remove Kapur from his post.

Amid mounting pressure and a complaint filed by Anmeet P Kumar, the Haryana government has sent Kapur on an extended leave pending further enquiry, while Bijarniya was removed from his post after being named in the suicide case.

Puran Kumar (52), a 2001-batch IPS officer, was found dead at his residence in Chandigarh on Tuesday. His body, bearing a gunshot wound, was discovered in a basement room.

In his nine-page suicide note, Puran Kumar mentioned the names of 12 officers, including Kapur and Bijarniya, and accused them of harassment, discrimination, and administrative bias.

He also detailed their alleged roles in perpetuating caste-based discrimination, public humiliation, targeted mental harassment, and other atrocities against him.

The Chandigarh Police has constituted a six-member special investigation team to investigate the case.
