Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) chief and Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi expressed his satisfaction over the seat-sharing arrangement within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) constituents for the upcoming Bihar Assembly Elections, saying that the party accepts the decision of the high command and has no complaints.

While speaking to reporters after the announcement of the seat-sharing pact, Manjhi said, “In the Parliament, we were given only one seat, were we upset? Similarly, if we got only 6 seats, it is the decision of the high command. We accept it… We are content with what we have been given. I have no complaints…"

The NDA Seat-Sharing Pact

As per the seat allotment for the 243-member Bihar assembly, the BJP and JD(U) will contest 101 seats each, while Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) has been allotted 29 seats. The Rashtriya Lok Morcha of Upendra Kushwaha and Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustan Awam Morcha or HAM will field candidates on six seats each.

As per the seat-sharing deal, Manjhi’s HAM would contest on Tekari, Kutumba, Atri, Imamganj, Sikandara, and Barachatti constituencies.

The formula was announced by Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan after days of hectic parlays in Patna and the national capital.

For the first time in Bihar’s electoral history, the BJP and JD(U) will contest an equal number of seats—101 each—in the upcoming 2025 Assembly elections. This marks a major shift in the state’s political equation, as Nitish Kumar’s party has traditionally contested a larger share whenever the two parties have been in alliance.

Was Manjhi Upset?

The former Chief Minister’s remarks came after some media reports speculated that Manjhi felt insulted and had warned the NDA that his party would not contest the upcoming state elections if it did not receive at least 15 seats.

Manjhi had said, “If we do not get 15 seats, we will not contest the elections. I feel insulted, and our people have been ignored. We have always supported the NDA; it is their duty to ensure we are respected. Fifteen seats will allow us to win 8–9, but if not, we may exercise our final option of leveraging our support across 60–70 constituencies to secure party recognition. I have no objection to Chirag, but please save us from humiliation."

In a subsequent statement, Manjhi clarified his stand, “There is no dispute on seat-sharing from our side. We are only asking for recognised seats so that our party gains official status in the Assembly. Even if we don’t contest a single seat, we will remain with the NDA."

Bihar Polls 2025

The election to the 243-member Bihar Assembly will be conducted in two phases. Polling for the first phase, covering 121 seats, will be held on the 6th of November. The remaining 122 constituencies will go to the polls in the second phase on the 11th of November. The counting of votes will be held on November 14.
