The Telangana High Court has permitted HYDRAA to undertake necessary pre-monsoon works required to prevent inundation of colonies around Bathukamma kunta at Bagh Amberpet.
A Vacation Bench of Justices Nagesh Bheemapaka and Lakshmi Narayana Alishetty passed the interim direction, after hearing an interim application filed by HYDRAA.
Earlier, a Bench of the HC passed an order to maintain status quo over the seven acres of land, which was part and parcel of Bathukamma kunta, following a petition filed by one A. Sudhakar Reddy and six others claiming rights over the land.
The Bench then directed Mr. Reddy and others and HYDRAA, which wanted to begin works to restore the water body at Bathukamma kunta, to maintain status quo over the disputed land. The petitioners filed an interim application alleging that HYDRAA personnel started interfering with the disputed site by filling the area with water and sought an order restraining the officials from doing the same.
Meanwhile, HYDRAA and other government departments filed an interim application seeking permission to undertake pre-monsoon works. They contended that unless the works were completed, the kunta and surrounding colonies would be inundated and face serious issues like submergence.
After hearing contentions of the government departments, the vacation bench modified the status quo order and permitted the HYDRAA to undertake pre-monsoon works at Bathukammakunta. (eom)
