Following the protest by mango farmers, Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy met Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan at his residence in New Delhi on Wednesday and urged Mr. Chouhan to extend assistance to farmers under the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) to mitigate the impact of the prevailing price crash and to provide price support through the Price Deficiency Payment Scheme (PDPS).
He apprised the Minister of the hardships faced by mango growers in districts such as Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Ramanagara, Bengaluru Rural, Tumakuru, and Haveri, among others.
In response, Minister Chouhan assured that an expeditious decision would be taken in the interest of mango growers and that support measures would be announced at the earliest, said a release.
