Man kills childhood friend in Pune with pressure cooker; arrested

PUNE: Police in Pune have arrested a 38-year-old waiter for allegedly killing his childhood friend during an argument at his home on Tuesday. The accused, Anil Jadhav, originally from Shrirampur in Ahilyanagar district, was taken into custody by Sinhagad Road police after allegedly assaulting his friend, Raju Dadu Aaru, 40, in a fit of rage.

The incident took place around 4.45pm at Jadhav’s rented flat in the Narhe area of Pune. Assistant Inspector Sameer Chavan told TOI that Jadhav had moved to Pune a few months ago and was working at an eatery on the Katraj-Dehu Road bypass. He lived in the Narhe flat with his wife. Aaru, also from Shrirampur and employed as a driver, had arrived in Pune a week earlier and was staying at Jadhav’s flat. “On Tuesday afternoon, while the two friends were chatting, Aaru allegedly made some derogatory remarks about Jadhav’s wife,” Inspector Chavan said.

“This provoked Jadhav, who picked up a pressure cooker and a steel water bottle and attacked Aaru.” Aaru suffered severe head injuries during the assault. Hearing the commotion, neighbours rushed to the flat and alerted police. Jadhav was detained at the scene, and Aaru was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Police have registered a case and are continuing their investigation.
