Magnus Carlsen recently became a father with the five-time world champion and his wife, Ella Victoria Carlsen, welcoming their first child on September 27. The Norwegian recently talked about the experience in an interview uploaded on the Take Take Take YouTube channel.
“You know, it’s different, of course. But I am certainly enjoying every moment of it and I think we’re we’re a very good team and we’re getting good help as well,” he said.
“He’s great. Yeah. What can I say? He’s 2 weeks old, but he’s fat and happy,” he added.
The Grandmaster also revealed that even though he is getting significantly less sleep than before the baby was born, it was still enough for him to get by on most days.

“Yeah, I was. I was today for sure. There was a you know two and 2 and a half hour gap, you know in the middle of the night but apart from that I’m managed to to sleep well and Ella is very generous with me. So even though I’m obviously getting significantly less sleep than I was before I’m still getting enough to get by on most days,” he said.
When asked about the name of the child, Carlsen said he’ll reveal it in due time. He also said that while at home, he used to sneak in when the kid was sleeping and played a bout of online chess games.
Asked about if fatherhood will affect his playing career, Carlsen said, “Yeah, I still want to compete. I’m still a chess player and yeah I think both with with a little bit with age and also now with a different kind of era in my life, motivation will be going a bit up and down but I love playing and I think about it and my wife is very understanding.”

Earlier this year, Carlsen was interviewed on the BotezLive YouTube channel where he was asked if he would want his kids to play chess.
“I will not force anything on my kids when that day comes but I think chess is a great game and it’s fun and I think I will at least encourage my kids to test it,” Carlsen had said.
