The Kansas City Chiefs have been waiting for news on how rookie Josh Simmons has been doing with recovery from his serious injury of a year ago. Josh Simmons, a line man aged 21, injured himself with a torn patellar tendon in a game while playing for Ohio State University in October 2024.

Since becoming a member of the Kansas City Chiefs organization Josh Simmons has been relatively quiet. But on Thursday, June 13, 2025, Head Coach Andy Reid gave a thorough update on Josh Simmons' status. Andy Reid's comments were brief but optimistic enough for fans to hope Josh Simmons could be back in full mode very soon.

Andy Reid says Josh Simmons is healing well, and now participating in team drills

Kansas City Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid provided an updated status report on Josh Simmons on the offensive line at a press conference in Kansas City on Thursday.

On October 21, 2024, Josh Simmons hurt his right knee.

Josh Simmons ripped his patellar tendon in the first half of the game while playing for Ohio State against Oregon; the Buckeyes lost barely, 32–31. The injury called for surgery and a long recuperating period.Andy Reid noted that Josh Simmons was only doing individual practice at first. But now he is participating in full team drills. Quite a progression. “He’s doing a nice job,” reported Andy Reid.

"We weren't sure what to get from [Simmons] this early, but he looks good." Andy Reid mentioned that the Kansas City Chiefs are trying to be careful and not push Josh Simmons, but they are happy with his effort and development.

Coach Andy Reid also mentioned Josh Simmons is now picking up a few things from offensive line coach Andy Heck, too. He noted that Josh Simmons is still learning the foundational football techniques.

Andy Reid also noted Josh Simmons needs to enhance his footwork and blocking technique, but he spoke positively about Josh Simmons’ motivation and attitude.“He has a great outlook about it,” said Andy Reid. “He’s listening and learning.”The Kansas City Chiefs go into mandatory minicamp next week, and Josh Simmons will continue to engage in more practices if he shows progress.
