A relentless heatwave sweeping through southern Europe has plunged several cities into crisis mode. Paris is on red alert, while record-breaking temperatures scorch parts of Spain and Portugal. Reportedly, the cities are racing to protect the vulnerable groups and prevent health related emergencies.

In Spain, the temperature soared past 46 degree C in some areas. While across the border, Portuguese authorities issued red heat alerts across seven regions as temperature climbed 43 degree C. (Image: AFP)
