With heavy rains lashing parts of Andhra Pradesh owing to cyclone Montha for last couple of days, the inflow into the Pulichintala Reservoir in Palnadu district on the Krishna river has reached up to five lakh cusecs, prompting authorities to release water downstream as a precautionary measure, on Thursday noon (October 30, 2025).
As a result, the Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada also released excess floodwater into the lower reaches. The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) has cautioned residents of low-lying and island villages (Lanka areas) along the Krishna river to remain vigilant.

Currently, both inflow and outflow at the Prakasam Barrage are around 2.74 lakh cusecs, and officials indicated that the first flood warning may be issued by evening if the discharge continues to rise. The flood flow could touch five lakh cusecs before gradually receding.
APSDMA Managing Director Prakhar Jain advised people living in flood-prone areas to stay cautious, avoid venturing into the river, refrain from swimming or fishing activities, and follow safety instructions issued by local authorities.
