Chandigarh and several parts of Punjab and Haryana received rainfall on Monday.

According to the local Met department, Chandigarh received 70.5 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Monday.

Rains caused a portion of a road to cave in near Sector 47-48 traffic signal point, where a motorcyclist had a narrow escape.

"We received a call at 4.35 am on Monday informing that a small portion of a road caved in. As the bike fell inside, the motorcyclist jumped off it and saved himself. His bike was pulled out later," said an official of the Fire and Emergency Services.

Authorities later barricaded the collapsed portion of the road and launched repair work.

Meanwhile, in Haryana, Yamunanagar, Hisar, Ambala, Rohtak, Bhiwani, Sirsa, Panchkula and Karnal received rain. In Yamunanagar district, a farmer claimed that his fields were submerged after heavy rains.

In Punjab, rain lashed places including Ludhiana, Patiala, Pathankot, Bathinda, Mohali, Gurdaspur and Ferozepur.

Temperatures hovered below normal limits after rain in the region.

More rains have been forecast at several places in the two states until Tuesday.
