Several parts of the Malnad region continued to receive heavy rains on Monday. Life was badly hit due to the downpour, and schools and colleges remained closed for the day in rain-hit areas.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a red alert for Chikkamagaluru and Shivamogga districts and an orange alert for Hassan district on Monday.

Two houses collapsed in Sakleshpur due to heavy rains on Sunday night. A house belonged to Gangamma at Hosur and another owned by Sannappa Gowda at Goddu village were damaged. Sannappa Gowda suffered minor injuries in the incident. He was admitted to a hospital in Sakleshpur.

According to local residents, a portion of an old pond, which is a part of the historic Bidanur fort at Nagara in Hosanagara taluk of Shivamogga district, collapsed due to heavy rains on Sunday night.

Following incessant rains, the rivers have swollen. Tunga River has been in spate in Sringeri. Many low-lying areas in the town have been inundated. Begar in Sringeri taluk of Chikkamagaluru received the highest rainfall of 170.5 mm in the region in 24 hours that ended on Monday at 8.30 a.m. Many parts of Koppa, N.R. Pura, Mudigere, and Chikkamagaluru recorded heavy rains on Monday.

Chikkamagaluru district administration had declared a holiday for schools in parts of six taluks in the district. The average rainfall recorded in the district was 45 mm against the normal 14 mm.

Many parts of Sagar, Hosanagara, Tirthahalli, and Shivamogga taluks received heavy rains throughout the day. The district recorded an average rainfall of 47 mm against the normal 19 mm on Monday. Hosahalli in Tirthahalli taluk recorded 107.5 mm of rainfall, the highest rainfall in the district. Tirthamattur in the same taluk received 101.5 mm.

Hassan district received an average rainfall of 19 mm against the normal 7 mm. Byakaravalli in Sakleshpur taluk of Hassan recorded 122.5 mm. Hongadahalla, also in Sakleshpur taluk, registered 118.5 mm. Hosahalli in Tirthahalli recorded 107.5 mm.

Reservoirs

The inflow into Hemavathi reservoir at Goruru in Hassan taluk was 32,087 cusecs. The water level has reached the maximum level of 2,922 ft, forcing the authorities to open the crest gates to release 27,925 cusecs.

The inflow at Tunga Reservoir at Gajanur as of Monday morning was 73,415 cusecs. The outflow is 76,656 cusecs. The crest gates have been opened as the water level reached the maximum level.

The water level in Linganmakki dam stands at 1,815.05 ft against the full reservoir level of 1,819 ft. The inflow is 59,891 cusecs. The live capacity is 138.55 TMC, against the total live capacity of 151.64 TMC.

The inflow to Bhadra reservoir at Lakkavalli is 34,430 cusecs, and the outflow is 39,245 cusecs.
