Parts of Hyderabad witnessed heavy rainfall on Saturday, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a heavy rainfall warning for the city and the neighbouring Medchal-Malkajgiri district.
While waterlogging was minimal, the downpour caused traffic congestion at several key junctions across the city. With the showers coinciding with the weekend, traffic movement in the IT hub was relatively light, but many residents who stepped out for leisure activities saw their plans disrupted.
According to data from the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), as of 8 p.m., Quthbullapur recorded a rainfall of 46.3 mm followed by 23.5 mm in Gajularamaram, 20.3 mm in Serilingampally, 20 mm in Shaikpet, 19.8 mm in Alwal, 19.3 mm in University of Hyderabad, 19 mm in Kanchanbagh, 18.8 mm in Chandrayangutta, 18.5 mm in Jeedimetla, 17 mm in Kukatpally, 16.8 mm in Malkajgiri and 15.3 mm in Secunderabad.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall alert in Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem and Kamareddy districts of Telangana. Additionally, thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty winds is very likely to occur at isolated places in all 33 districts, the IMD said.
