The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday (August 25, 2025) said over the last six months it held nearly 5,000 structured meetings with political parties at all levels.

These meetings were envisaged by the poll body at a conference of Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) held in March 2025.

A total of 4,719 structured meetings with all political parties were conducted, comprising 40 meetings by Chief Electoral Officers, 800 by Deputy Electoral Officers, and 3,879 by Electoral Registration Officers, engaging over 28,000 representatives of various political parties since then, the ECI said in a statement.

The heads of all six recognised national parties were invited and the commission had already held meetings with the party heads/authorised representatives of five national parties in May 2025. These meetings provide a platform for party heads to share their suggestions and concerns directly with the commission. These meetings were in addition to the meetings of the ECI with other delegations of political parties on their request.

The Commission said it had also interacted with 17 recognised State political parties during July and August 2025.

“These proactive meetings are a new initiative by the commission,” the statement said.
