High alert sounded in Konaseema A.P., as inflow exceeds 8.2 lakh cusecs at Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage

Authorities have issued high alert in Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district downstream Sir Arthur Cotton barrage, which continues to receive an inflow of above 8.20 lakh cusecs of flood water, on Tuesday (August 19, 2025).

The first Godavari flood warning will be issued at the inflow of 10 lakh. At least 2,000 cusecs of water is being diverted into the canals in the Godavari Delta, according to Godavari flood bulletin. 

The islands of P. Gannavaram in the Konaseema region and Rajamahendravaram city are the most affected. The inhabitants of the islands in the Konaseema region have been told not to venture into the Godavari river for fishing. The boats are kept ready on the bank of the river Godavari for the rescue operation and evacuation drive.

Upstream Polavaram irrigation project, the tribals are also on the alert as Godavari river is receiving huge inflow of flood water from the rivers of Sabari and Sileru, which together confluence into the Godavari at Kunavaram.
