The High Court has directed the State government to extend the last date for students to submit their options for admission to engineering courses in colleges affiliated to APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU) from July 18 to August 2.

The Bench of Justice D K Singh passed the order while considering a batch of petitions filed by the Amal Jyothi College of Engineering, Kanjirappally, and other self-financing engineering colleges affiliated to the university.

They submitted that the All India Council for Technical Education had granted approval to increase seats for some existing courses and to begin new courses. But the university has not yet granted affiliation for the newly sanctioned seats and courses. So the court directed the university to constitute inspection teams and to submit inspection reports by July 23. Based on the reports, the university must take a decision on affiliation by July 31.
