Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy of Telangana High Court on Wednesday directed the GHMC authorities to release a pet dog Ares which was detained by them following a complaint that it attacked a person.

The judge, passing order in a writ petition filed by the pet owner E.B. Dakshinamurthy, directed the petitioner to shift the dog to another and safe location. The petitioner lives in Ekkaladevi Elite building in Chikkadpally. He reared the pet dog of Dugo Argentino breed. A few weeks ago, the petitioner’s brother E.B. Narasimha Murthy lodged a complaint with Chikkadpally police alleging that the dog attacked him and subsequently he had undergone medical treatment for the injuries sustained. The police issued a FIR under BNSS, following which the GHMC officials detained the pet dog and lodged it in a cage.

Alleging that his pet dog was suffering due to lack of adequate care while being in the custody of GHMC authorities and he was not issued any notice before detaining it, the petitioner moved the HC. Ordering release of the dog, the judge said the officials can proceed with legal action against the petitioner if the Dugo Argentino breed was banned in India as claimed by the complainant.
