Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said on Friday that the state government has requested the Centre to reopen trade through the Shipki La pass, and talks are ongoing to start the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra via Shipki La. CM Sukhu mentioned that the existing road from Rampur Bushahr and Pooh up to the pass would make it easier to build the needed infrastructure for the pilgrimage.

He said this while leading the closing ceremony of the four-day International Lavi Fair at Rampur in Shimla district on Friday. ‘I started border tourism from Shipki La, and because of this, more than 70,000 tourists have visited this pass along the China border,’ he said. Wishing everyone for the Lavi Fair, he said the fair is not just a symbol of our cultural heritage but also a living example of the centuries-old trade and cultural ties between India and Tibet.

He said this old fair still acts as a way for trade, cultural exchange, and keeping folk traditions alive. He also said the government has raised the issue of helping families who lost their land due to disasters on forest land with the Union government, since the Forest Act is handled by the central government. ‘If the central government gives permission, we are ready to give one bigha of land to every landless family, and if the state government had the power, I would have changed the forest laws in a minute,’ he added.

The chief minister also announced that Rampur school will follow the CBSE curriculum from the next academic session. Earlier, Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh welcomed CM Sukhu to Rampur and said the fair, which started in the 17th century, keeps growing while keeping its original spirit. He said it is important to connect the younger generation with the fair as times change.
