NEW DELHI: A massive landslide occurred near Chaukar village in Sirmaur’s Nauhradhar area on Saturday, causing a large section of the hill to collapse. The landslide, which stretched nearly 200 metres, posed a significant threat to nearby homes and residents. Authorities confirmed that five people were present at the site during the incident and, fortunately, all are safe.Visuals from the site show massive rubble scattered across the slopes, with a large tree trunk being swept away by the force of the landslide. However, five houses now fall within the danger zone, raising concerns about potential structural damage and the safety of residents. The region has been severely affected by heavy monsoon rains this season, contributing to soil erosion and instability in hilly areas. Local authorities have urged residents in the vicinity to remain vigilant and avoid venturing close to the landslide site while disaster management teams assess the situation. No casualties have been reported so far, but officials are monitoring the area closely to prevent further incidents.(With agency inputs)
