Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma with acting high commissioner of Singapore Alice Cheng in New Delhi
Guwahati: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday met acting high commissioner of Singapore, Alice Cheng, in New Delhi and urged her to extend full cooperation to the state police to take forward the investigation into the death of Zubeen Garg in the island nation.He said, “In our meeting, I reiterated our request to the Singaporean authorities to extend their full cooperation to Assam Police. The CM added that the state govt was “assured of all possible support in this matter.”Cheng told the media that Singapore Police was carrying out a probe regarding Zubeen’s death. “I appeal to the people of Assam to have patience and to give time and space to the police for a thorough investigation,” she added.
The acting high commissioner of Singapore further said Singapore Police has already shared the autopsy report and preliminary findings.Assam Police SIT, which is probing the Zubeen case here, sent a request through the Union home ministry to Singapore on Sept 30, seeking legal assistance under the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty and reached the office of the Singapore attorney general.SIT chief and special DGP MP Gupta said the Singapore authorities sent an email through the Indian High Commission, seeking information on how many Assam Police officers would be sent and their agenda to visit the island nation in connection with the singer’s death.
He added that the Assam Police have sent the details to them.“We hope that very soon, we will get the green signal to go to Singapore to take forward our work related to the investigation there,” the officer said. The state govt constituted a nine-member SIT to investigate Zubeen’s death in Singapore allegedly while swimming in the sea on Sept 19.
