National Health Mission Director A. Arun Thamburaj visited the Thoothukudi Government Medical College Hospital and the Government Hospitals at Tiruchendur and Kaayalpattinam on Tuesday to review the preparations made in these hospitals ahead of the consecration of Lord Subramaniya Swami Temple on July 7.
Since over 10 lakh devotees were expected to turn up for the event, the Department of Public Health is preparing the hospitals, including the Thoothukudi Medical College Hospital, to handle unexpected rush of patients in case of any emergency. After visiting the government hospitals at Tiruchendur and Kaayalpattinam, Mr. Arun Thamburaj had discussions with the doctors at the medical college hospital.
Mr. Thamburaj urged medical college Dean G. Sivakumar to take care of the Tiruchendur Government Hospital with 120 beds until the end of the celebrations. The Dean was asked to deploy his men and material in sufficient numbers at Tiruchendur Government Hospital.
Moreover, he asked the officials at the medical college hospital to create a ward with 120 beds for receiving patients, if any, from Tiruchendur.
When he visited the multispeciality block under construction on the medical college premises, Mr. Arun Thamburaj asked the contractor to construct a compound wall and instructed the Public Works Department officials to prepare the estimates for the mandatory administrative sanction. “This block should be ready by August 15,” he said.
