The house to house enumeration, as part of the Special Intensive Revision of the electoral rolls, began across Tamil Nadu on Tuesday. Booth-level officers (BLOs) visited households to distribute partially pre-filled enumeration forms.

Deputy Election Commissioner Bhanu Prakash Yeturu and Director Krishna Kumar Tiwari from the Election Commission of India visited Tamil Nadu on Tuesday to review the progress. Mr. Yeturu is scheduled to undertake field visits to districts.

According to a senior official, about 68,700 booth-level officers were engaged in the enumeration. Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Archana Patnaik had earlier said if the BLO finds any house locked or closed, she/he shall make at least three visits.

Electors may also download their enumeration forms and submit the filled-in forms online. The BLOs will collect the filled up forms and provide an acknowledgement in one copy of the enumeration form which will be retained by the elector, it said. Online submissions will also be verified by the BLOs during their house visits.

The CEO also said electors can fill up the details of their names or the names of the parents or grandfather or grandmother in the electoral rolls of the previous SIR. The BLOs will assist the electors in filling up these details.

The names of all the electors who have submitted their duly filled enumeration forms to the BLOs during the house to house enumeration will be included in the draft electoral roll, which will be published on December 9.

For electors, who have not furnished complete details, the officials will initiate enquiry and the electors can submit necessary documents during the hearing. The final electoral rolls will be published on February 7, 2026.
