In an interview with Allkpop recently, Wang, 31, talked about how he always wants his fans to be aware of who they are choosing to support. While talking about his growth as an idol, he shared that “I think for my solo stuff across the years, especially the most recent two, three years, and my recent album is just talking about who I am as a person, how I feel. I think it’s the first time sharing it [with and] exposing it to my fans and community.

He further shared that while he is in a group with GOT7, he only shows small pieces of himself. He added that all of the members have the responsibility to operate as one, as ‘us’ rather than in separate spaces. They all share an obligation to present a united front, he shares, while adding that his solo work has given a lot more freedom in that case.

The artist also delved into his experience as an idol and how everything has shaped him in the past as well.

He talked about how, in the past, he had no vision when it came to his idea of being an artist, while now he has a more refined sense of who he is as a person. He added, “There are some songs that I didn’t even know what they meant when I’m performing. I don’t know about other teams. I can’t speak for other artists, but I can speak for myself. There are some songs that the company or whoever the A&R just gives you and just cuts it, you don’t even know what it means.”He released ‘MAGICMAN 2’ earlier this year in July, and shared how the album is the first time he got to fully experience and share his honest self with the public as well. “How I feel about life, what I’ve been through, and most importantly, how I recovered from my darkest days,” he further added.
