Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ramvilas) chief Chirag Paswan on Friday (July 11) received a death threat from an unknown source on social media, following which he fumed at the state government, asking how many more murders the state has to witness.
The threat message said that Paswan, Union Minister of Food Processing Industries, would be killed in an explosion on or before July 20.
The threat came at a time when Chirag Paswan is busy campaigning in different parts of Bihar for his party ahead of the upcoming state Assembly elections and the prevalent law and order situation is one of the prominent poll issues.
Following the threat, the LJP spokesperson, Dr Rajesh Bhatt, reached Cyber Police Station in Patna and filed a complaint, demanding from the administration to immediately arrest the person issuing the threat and take the strictest action against them.
Dr Bhatt said that this is not only an attack on democracy but also a blow to Dalit leadership, which will not be tolerated at all.
On Saturday, the LJP chief reacted to the death threat he received and slammed the law and order under the incumbent Nitish Kumar government.
"How many more murders will Biharis have to face? It is beyond comprehension as to how responsible the Bihar Police is," Paswan said in a tweet written in Hindi.
This came days after Chirag Paswan questioned Bihar's law and order while raking up businessman Gopal Khemka's murder by two bike-borne assailants.
"The law and order situation in Bihar is in shambles. Murders and other crimes are rampant in the state. It is a matter of concern for all of us. It is a matter of concern for me as well, because the government I support is known for sushaasan (good governance)," Paswan minced no words while addressing party workers and supporters in Saran district last week.
Owner of the Magadh Hospital, Gopal Khemka, was shot dead earlier this month in the plush Gandhi Maidan area of Patna, six years after his son, Gunjan, who was a BJP leader as well, was killed in broad daylight in a similar fashion.
On the same day, Paswan confirmed that he will contest the Bihar elections that are slated to be held later this year, most probably in October or November.
