After the first round of peace talks between the US and Iran failed and Washington deployed warships at the Strait of Hormuz, Iran reportedly approached Europe to inform them about its stockpile of highly enriched uranium and future stewardship of the strait.
According to The Guardian, Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, held phone briefings with the French and German foreign ministers, Jean-Noël Barrot and Johann Wadephul, as well as the Saudi, Omani and Qatari foreign ministers. During the conversation, Araghchi reportedly informed them on Iran’s offer on its stockpile of highly enriched uranium and Strait of Hormuz.

This comes as rifts have emerged between the US and several countries in Europe in past several months.
Europe On Trump Wanting To Seize Greenland
Europe’s reaction to Donald Trump trying to seize Greenland was far stronger and more unified than its response to Venezuela.
Countries like France, Germany, UK, and Nordic states closed ranks behind Denmark. They said Greenland is not for sale and its future is for Denmark and Greenland alone to decide.
In a joint statement, the leaders of France, Britain, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain and Denmark stressed that sovereignty, territorial integrity and the inviolability of borders are “universal principles, and we will not stop defending them".
Europe On Iran War
European leaders have firmly resisted pressure from US President Donald Trump to join the conflict with Iran, with EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas stating bluntly that “this is not Europe’s war."
This week, NATO allies said they would not get involved in the US President’s plan to blockade Iranian ports.
“We’re not supporting the blockade," British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. “My decision has been very clearly that whatever the pressure, and there’s been some considerable pressure, we’re not getting dragged into the war."
After the first round of peace talks in Pakistan capital between the US and Iran failed, France and UK announced that they will co-host a conference to discuss the resumption of Strait of Hormuz.
According to The Guardian, Iran will be urging the countries with minesweeper equipment – Germany, the UK and Italy – to resist pressure from Washington to start clearing mines from the strait since Tehran will see this as an action as in support of Trump’s illegal blockade of Iranian oil ports.
This was despite Araghchi criticising Europe last year for refusing to stand up to Trump when E3 powers – France, Germany and the UK – permitted UN sanctions to be reinstated due to Iran’s alleged failure to meet its commitments on access to its nuclear sites.
