Human Rights Commission takes suo motu cognisance of Nizamabad police encounter

The Telangana State Human Rights Commission on Tuesday stated that it took suo motu cognisance of the encounter of Shaik Riyaz in Nizamabad.

The Commission directed the Director General of Police B. Shivdhar Reddy to submit a detailed report covering the circumstances leading to the incident, the status of any magisterial or judicial inquiry, and compliance with the Supreme Court and NHRC guidelines on encounter deaths, along with copies of the FIR and post-mortem.

In a separate development, Majlis Bachao Tehreek spokesperson Amjed Ullah Khan demanded on Tuesday an inquiry by a judge of the High Court to investigate the killing of police constable Pramod and subsequent encounter of accused Shaik Riyaz. Mr. Khan raised several questions, and demanded that the Nizamabad Police Commissioner Sri Chaitanya go on leave voluntarily.
