Agra: Air connectivity from Agra’s Kheria Airport has suffered another setback, with the Hyderabad flight set to shift to the newly operational Noida International Airport at Jewar, Airport Authority of India (AAI) officials said on Monday.AAI officials told TOI that the Agra-Bengaluru flight will also see a reduction in frequency from July 1, operating only five days a week instead of the current daily schedule. It will remain suspended on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Earlier this year, low-cost carrier IndiGo discontinued its Agra-Ahmedabad service. The latest changes come amid a broader reshuffle of flight operations following the commencement of commercial services at Jewar airport.Sources told TOI that the civil aviation ministry has rationalised services from several cities, including Agra, resulting in fewer flights operating from Kheria Airport. At the beginning of the year, Agra had direct air connectivity with four cities, with IndiGo operating Airbus A320 (CEO and NEO), A321 NEO, and ATR 72-600 aircraft on these routes. However, the Ahmedabad service was withdrawn in March. The Mumbai flight was shifted to Navi Mumbai airport, reducing travel options for passengers from the city.
The Navi Mumbai service will continue without any changes. It will operate three times a week — on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays — with the existing departure and arrival timings remaining unchanged.Agra Airport director Vivek Sharma said, “Passengers may have to wait until the winter schedule comes into effect for any expansion of flight services from Agra. We are hopeful that IndiGo will resume these flights during the winter season, considering the passenger demand and Agra’s tourism potential.”Passengers, meanwhile, have expressed disappointment over IndiGo’s decision. Pravendra Rajput, a tech professional from Agra, said, “I frequently travel between Hyderabad and Agra because my parents live in Agra while I work in Hyderabad. The discontinuation of this flight will now force me to travel to Delhi and then take a train to Agra.”
