Hyderabad: Heavy rains continued to lash Hyderabad for the third straight day, bringing parts of the city to a near halt. Several neighbourhoods reported severe waterlogging, traffic snarls, and disrupted daily routines.
Kapra recorded the highest rainfall at 77.8 mm, followed by Prasanth Nagar and Rajiv Nagar, both receiving 68.5 mm.According to data from the Telangana Development Planning Society, other major rain-hit areas included Lalapet Moula Ali (66.3 mm), Dr A S Rao Nagar (62 mm), and New Mettuguda (62 mm). A total of six locations recorded over 60 mm of rainfall, while nearly 30 areas experienced between 30 and 60 mm, classified as ‘Moderate to Heavy’ rainfall.Commuters bore the brunt of the downpour as arterial roads in Uppal, Tarnaka, Malkajgiri, and parts of Secunderabad turned into streams. In some areas, stranded vehicles added to the chaos.
“I was stuck in traffic for over 45 minutes. The rainwater covered the dividers and potholes, making it extremely risky to drive,” said Krishna N, a bank official commuting from Sainikpuri.In another incident, Namratha V from Paradise, Secunderabad shared how the street in front of her office was flooded: “It was completely waterlogged, so much so that I could not even take out my two-wheeler.
And booking a cab took another 40 minutes. It’s the same story every time it rains heavily.”To address the situation, GHMC deployed monsoon emergency teams and Disaster Response Force (DRF) units across key zones. Field staff were seen clearing stormwater drains and monitoring water stagnation hotspots such as Serilingampally, Balapur, Hayathnagar, and Shamshabad.Authorities urged citizens to stay cautious.
“Avoid unnecessary travel, especially in flood-prone areas, and report any civic issues immediately,” an advisory from GHMC read.The official rainfall advisory issued by IMD predicts generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rain or thundershowers, gusty winds (30–40 kmph), and hazy conditions in parts of the city. Authorities have warned of water pooling on roads and slippery surfaces.Citizens are advised to keep emergency contacts handy and avoid parking vehicles under trees or near weak structures.
