The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has received a total 52 complaints on Monday’s Prajavani programme, majority of them pertaining to lake encroachment.

In Hasmathpet, Kukatpally (Balanagar mandal), residents alleged that 10 acres of government land has been encroached and that blocked sluices of the Hasmathpet Lake were flooding nearby layouts. Similar complaints came from Pedda Golkonda (Shamshabad mandal), where the closure of Narasimhakunta sluices led to inundation of farmlands, even submerging parts of the Outer Ring Road service lane.

Encroachments of lakes were also reported from Beeramguda where locals said Shambuni Kunta lake has shrunk from 22 acres to about six acres due to soil dumping. At Pariki Cheruvu in Kukatpally, nearly 12 acres were allegedly filled overnight for a proposed 18-storey apartment project. Complaints were also received about the Ameenpur Pedda Cheruvu being encroached by illegal structures.

In Yashodanagar Colony near Sagar Road, residents complained that internal roads have been merged into private plots, forcing long detours. A few complainants from Old Bowenpally came with the allegation that 28 acres of government land — listed in the 1953 Archaeological Department Gazette — has been occupied by local leaders and converted into a real-estate venture.

HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath personally reviewed the complaints and directed field officials to act promptly.
