Korean action titan Ma Dong-seok, best known for 'Train to Busan' and 'The Roundup' films, is stepping into reality entertainment with a new boxing survival program, 'I Am Boxer,' premiering November 21.
According to Yonhap News, Ma not only stars in the show but also serves as its creator, aiming to reignite the spirit of Korean boxing with a blockbuster-scale production fueled by his lifelong passion for the sport.
Star-studded ring fighters
In his first reality venture, Ma takes on the role of master coach alongside singer Kim Jong-kook and TV personality Dex, who will lead as MCs. Contestants include actors Jang Hyuk, Julien Kang, and Yoo Jun-seo, each ready to enter the ring to prove their endurance and discipline.
With real sparring sessions, intense training camps, and dramatic eliminations, the show promises a raw take on physical competition that fans have never seen before.
Powerhouse production team
Behind the camera, director Lee Won-woong of 'Steel Troops' and writer Kang Sook-kyung of 'Physical: 100' have joined forces once again after their past hits, including '29 Billion: Marriage War.' Their collaboration promises cinematic visuals and tough physical missions that blend Ma's real boxing philosophy with the storytelling flair that made their previous projects global sensations.
Ma, who has trained for over 30 years, personally designed the challenges to test both heart and stamina.
A knockout before it begins
Anticipation is already surging. Boxing gyms in Seoul have reported increased registrations, while sponsors are eyeing potential collaborations with Ma's fitness brand. Industry insiders estimate the show could generate commercial revenues surpassing INR 100 million, depending on its performance. Fans online are calling it "the birth of a true fighting legend on TV," hinting that Ma Dong-seok may now dominate reality TV just as he conquered the big screen.
