'I Take A Lot Of Medicine': Anubrata Mondal Apologises After 'Abusive Call' To Cop Goes Viral

TMC’s controversial strongman Anubrata Mondal on Friday tendered his apology after his purported phone call with a police officer went viral on social media.

A case was registered against the TMC leader, who is also a former Birbhum president of the party, after he was heard hurling abuses and threats at the Inspector-in-Charge (IC) of Bolpur Police Station, even dragging the officer’s wife and daughter into the tirade.

“Mamata Banerjee is the Police Minister—she can’t even think of abusing the police. I can apologise a hundred times. I take a lot of medicine, and maybe someone else said something about Didi’s police," said Mondal after stoking the row.

Mondal further questioned how the phone recording reached the BJP, suggesting it could be a conspiracy.

BJP ‘Exposes’ Mondal

BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar was the first to post the audio on X, commenting: “His position within the party has weakened, which is why this case has been allowed to proceed. It’s not the first time Mondal has abused police officers."

BJP leader Amit Malviya also condemned the alleged threats, saying that Mondal’s audio clip exposed the ruling “TMC’s real face."

“A TMC leader, under the very nose of a woman Chief Minister, threatens a police officer with the rape of his mother and wife. This is the real face of TMC — emboldened, lawless, and shameless. If this is how they treat a police officer, imagine the plight of ordinary citizens. This proves that women are not safe in West Bengal under TMC’s rule," Malviya said.

Damage-Control Move

In a damage-control move, the TMC responded promptly, with Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya stating that the party would take action if Mondal had indeed overstepped.

The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) issued a statement demanding an apology from Mondal within four hours, warning that a show-cause notice would be issued if he failed to comply.

Meanwhile, Mondal alleged on Thursday that the Inspector-in-Charge (IC) accepts bribes and claimed to have reported the matter to the SP and DIG.
