“I turned him down”: Tommy Fleetwood wife Clare reveals how their 23 year age gap nearly stopped their love story

Tommy Fleetwood finally lifted his first PGA Tour trophy at the Tour Championship in Atlanta on August 24, 2025. The 34-year-old English golfer won the FedEx Cup on his 164th try and earned $10 million with a final putt at East Lake Golf Club.

But away from golf, Fleetwood’s wife, Clare, has admitted that their 23-year age difference has been a challenge since the start of their relationship.

Clare Fleetwood, now 57, first spoke about the issue on the Performance People podcast in 2023. She said the age gap was never a problem for them, but the outside talk made her feel “paranoid.” She explained, “It was not for us, but what other people were thinking. In our circle, it was big news.”Clare first met Tommy in 2015 when she worked as his agent. They married two years later in the Bahamas and had a son, Frankie. At first, Clare even rejected him.

“We’ve got a 23-year age difference. Of course, I turned him down. I was like, ‘Don’t be stupid,’” she recalled. Tommy later joked that she “eventually gave in” and agreed to date him.Today, Clare manages all of Tommy’s professional work. She takes care of sponsorships, accounts, travel, and PR.

She said balancing work and personal life is hard, but she always wanted to support him fully.
