It was a night to forget for Los Angeles Dodgers’ ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who was roughed up in a 6–2 loss to the San Francisco Giants. His control issues were apparent from the get-go, and he allowed a total of five; four in runs, five walks, and left without having completed five innings.

Yamamoto gave a very forthright dismissal after the game: "There were absolutely no pitches with which I was satisfied."

Yoshinobu Yamamoto struggles with pitching

Loss of command became a huge problem for Yoshinobu Yamamoto. He pitched 102 balls, out of which only 56 were strikes. His normally pinpoint fastball did not hit its spots, and breaking balls sailed too high or too wide. The sting of the biggest heartbreak fell in the fifth inning, as Casey Schmitt became one of the very few who went out of his way to hit a grand slam, thus putting the game far out of reach.

Feeling helpless, Yamamoto then slammed his glove on the mound while he started pacing back and forth. He said, “I tried to regain my rhythm and pitch better. I tried to turn the page emotionally. But I wasn’t able to adjust. I didn’t pitch well until the end.” This run-in is among his worst outings since he came from Japan, and his performances of late indicate that he is hitting a bump in his first MLB season.

Dodgers' loss to the San Fransisco Giants

The Dodgers' offence was unable to back their ace, scoring a mere two runs, while the Giants made each one count.

The loss placed the Dodgers behind in the divisional hunt and brought into light just how vulnerable the club appears to be with the front-line starter in trouble.

The bullpen was able to hold up well once Yamamoto exited, but the early damage was too severe to be overcome by the late rally. The Giants, whose offence had suddenly been in a slump, managed to get some life against a pitcher who had been dominant against them in the past.

Yoshinobu said, “I was satisfied with no pitches.” Those words were not merely a postgame sentiment- they revealed a kind of self-awareness. Considering the less fortunate circumstances in the matter, Yamamoto chose to view said experience as an opportunity to improve."I think I can learn from this and find something positive in it," he said. Manager Dave Roberts continued his support, stating he had belief in Yamamoto's ability should he not overthink on a mound; however, with the brightening of the playoff race, they will need their ace to return immediately. Also Read: “He’s freaking awesome”- MLB insider slams Dodgers fans for Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s lack of spotlightYamamoto's self-critique shows some maturity, but the Dodgers need results.
