Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, has delivered a definitive statement that completely negates President Donald Trump’s claims of brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, top intelligence sources told CNN-News18 on Saturday. As the highest authority on the matter, the Air Chief’s words have put an end to all speculation, providing a direct rebuttal to Trump’s assertion of external mediation, they added.
According to the Air Chief, the ceasefire during Operation Sindoor was a unilateral decision made by India after the successful completion of the air dominance phase. This aligns with India’s established military doctrine, as seen in the 1999 Kargil War and the 2019 Balakot airstrikes, where conflicts were terminated on New Delhi’s terms once military objectives were achieved.
Top intelligence sources confirmed that the decision to halt hostilities came after India’s armed forces achieved specific and overwhelming military objectives. The main combat phase lasted less than 72 hours, during which over 70 Indian Air Force (IAF) combat aircraft sorties were conducted on targeted missions. These operations successfully neutralised designated Pakistani launch pads, severely degraded the country’s air defence readiness, and forced the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) into a defensive mode. IAF intelligence has since confirmed that five PAF planes were damaged, along with significant damage to PAF Base Nur Khan and its forward operating locations.
The short, decisive operational window is a clear indication that the ceasefire was not a result of US pressure but rather a strategic choice, said the sources. This is further supported by the fact that the Indian Navy’s carrier battle group remained deployed in the Arabian Sea and the Army’s forward posture stayed in place for days after the ceasefire, demonstrating that India had the capability to continue the fight if it chose to do so.
Intelligence intercepts and diplomatic channels confirm that Pakistan, realising the rapid depletion of its operational reserves and heightened risk to its air assets, initiated backchannel de-escalation talks with New Delhi. This stands in stark contrast to the 2019 Balakot episode, where evidence of PAF losses emerged only gradually.
