Identify people’s issues, build an effective narrative, and work together as a team, the Congress party’s top leadership conveyed this to the newly appointed office-bearers of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Friday (May 30, 2025).

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, senior leader Rahul Gandhi and general secretary (organisation) K.C. Venugopal met with party leaders from Assam to discuss strategy ahead of the Assembly election in the State next year.

This was the first meeting of the top party leadership with the Assam unit after Lok Sabha member Gaurav Gogoi was appointed the Assam Congress chief last Monday.

General secretary in-charge for Assam Jitendra Singh was also present at the meeting at the party’s new Indira Bhavan headquarters.

Mr. Gogoi, who has been been constantly attacked by Chief Minister and BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma over alleged links with Pakistan, told reporters that he is “looking forward” to the questioning by the special investigation team, set up by the Assam government against him.

The Assam Congress chief, who is the party’s Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha, said they would focus on “misgovernance, illegal syndicates and wrong policies” of the State government.
