Idols vandalised at Coimbatore temples, right-wing groups demand swift action; special police team formed to nab culprits

COIMBATORE: Unidentified persons damaged the idols of Lord Ganesh, Mushak, the chariot of Lord Ganesh, and the Rahu and Ketu idols at Plague Mariamman Temple and Sakthi Vinayagar Temple on Avinashi Road near Chinniyampalayam in Coimbatore district on Wednesday.The temple, a few decades old, is located on Avinashi Road near Chinniyampalayam in Coimbatore district. Unknown persons entered the temple premises late on Tuesday night, damaged the four idols with stones, and left the place.Motorists who found the damaged idols alerted Sulur police, who rushed to the spot and began an inquiry. The temple was allegedly located on govt land and does not have any CCTV cameras. The police formed a special team to nab the culprits.Meanwhile, a group of right-wing people gathered at the temple and demanded immediate action against the culprits.
