As the US is set to impose 50 per cent tariffs on Indian imports starting Wednesday, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday warned that “If we open our third eye, those who try to bully us will not be able to stand anywhere”.

Chauhan was speaking at the 64th All India Wheat and Barley Research Workers meet in Gwalior, where he said there would be no compromise on the interests of farmers.

“Mitro aaj ek kisan ke nate, meri antratma kah rahi hai, Bharat ke woh pradhanmantri, jinhone keh diya, duniya ka kitna bada bhi dada ho lekin kisan hiton ke sath samjhauta nahin hone dunga. (Friends, today, as a farmer, my conscience tells me, the Prime Minister of India, who has declared that no matter how powerful anyone in the world may be, he will never allow any compromise on the interests of farmers),” he said.

Chouhan added that there would be no compromise on the national interest or interests of farmers, cattle rearers, and fishermen.

While asking people to buy made-in-India products, Chouhan also warned those who were trying to dominate India. “Hum sab ek sankalp aur le ki hum apni dainik jivan mein, swadeshi vastuvo ka upyog karenge, hum apne desk mein bani utpad aur cheezo ko hi khareedenge…hum pe log dadagiri kar rahe hai ? Humne teesra netra khol diya toh dadagiri karne wale kahi tikenge nai. (Let’s all take a pledge in our daily lives to use indigenous products, to buy only goods and items made in our own country. Are people trying to dominate us? If we open our third eye, then those who try to bully us will not be able to stand anywhere),” he said.

Chouhan said that a fast-progressing India could now speak fearlessly and would not bow down to anyone.

“India is progressing at a fast rate today. We speak fearlessly, looking the world straight in the eye. This nation of 144 crore people considers the whole world as one family. We wish for the well-being of everyone. But that does not mean that we will bow down or be suppressed before anyone,” he said.

Chouhan said the country was progressing with the pride that no power in the world can dictate terms to it.

“We are moving forward on the principle of considering everyone as our own. Under the leadership of Modi ji, when we developed the vaccine, India provided it to 100 countries across the world, because we want to see everyone prosper. But in today’s times, it is equally important to make the nation strong. Only those who possess strength can speak with true confidence,” Chouhan said.

The Union minister said that India would become the largest market. “We have left behind those who once ruled over us, and the day will come when India will become the world’s largest economy,” he said.
