IIM Shillong marks 19th foundation day with focus on AI

Shillong: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong celebrated its 19th Foundation Day on Friday with the theme “Shaping Futures, Serving Humanity.”The event brought together members of the board of governors, faculty, staff, students and invited guests to reflect on the institute’s journey and future roadmap.Delivering the first lecture on ‘The Business of AI,’ Gautam Barua, professor emeritus at IIIT Guwahati and former director of IIT Guwahati and IIIT Guwahati, discussed recent breakthroughs in artificial intelligence, particularly generative AI.Board of governors member Nitin Sharma spoke on the importance of agility and clarity of vision in management education. Emphasising that progress requires more than speed, he said it is “direction and intent that determine an institution’s true growth.”Prof Naliniprava Tripathy, director in-charge of IIM Shillong, reflected on the institute’s evolution since launching its first MBA batch in 2008 with 63 students. “IIM Shillong was built on the belief that management education must go beyond classrooms,” she said.Shaakun Khanna, former vice-president (HCM and SaaS Applications), APAC at Oracle, spoke about the evolving role of human capital in a rapidly digitising world.
