Dhanbad: In a major initiative to strengthen grassroots governance and enhance leadership at the village level, the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad, in collaboration with the department of panchayati raj, has launched a five-day Leadership and Management Development Programme (MDP) for panchayati raj functionaries.The programme, being held from November 10 to 14 at the Executive Development Centre (EDC) of IIT (ISM), has brought together 27 elected representatives from various districts of Jharkhand, including block heads, deputy heads, and officials from multiple tiers of the Panchayati Raj system.The training programme was inaugurated by prof Dheeraj Kumar, deputy director, IIT (ISM), who described the initiative as a milestone in building capacity for local governance.
“Such training equips panchayati raj representatives with crucial administrative and leadership tools to manage and implement development work more efficiently,” he said.Prof Keka Ojha, dean, continuing education programme, IIT (ISM), highlighted that the initiative goes beyond training. “It is a transformative learning experience. Upon completing the course, participants will be part of the IIT (ISM) alumni family — a symbol of excellence and empowerment,” she noted.
Providing details about the structure of the programme, prof Rajni Singh, dean (corporate communications) and coordinator of the MDP, said that the sessions are designed to enhance leadership, communication, project management, financial planning, and digital governance skills. “Through a blend of academic learning and practical exercises, the programme bridges the gap between policy and implementation, helping leaders adopt transparent and innovative governance practices,” she added.
